Good morning runners! Here's the daily training thread!

I'm headed to meet the boss' boss at IHOP where we'll be treated to breakfast before spending the rest of the day prepping the managed hunt site. On the plus side... free breakfast and early end to the work day. On the downside... I'm awake right now. I'll run after work. At least 7 miles. It'll be nice and easy.

So what is everyone else up to today, training and otherwise?

Question! Have you ever had a thought or series of thoughts eat at you in a way detrimental to your everyday functioning? What'd you do to get passed it/them?

Discuss... and HAPPY RUNNING!

David, ([info]travelogger ), I wrote this as a comment to the proper from entry in the memories, but it probably got buried in your email, so I thought I'd throw it out here. If you have the time, I'd be grateful if you commented on it.

So, I got into a (friendly) argument with one of my runner friends about proper form, especially the correct position and motion of the arms during running. He argued that a stronger arm swing with more momentum would help with maintaining pace and even help you go faster. I pointed out this would only be the case at shorter distances, but talking about marathons and ultras putting more energy into arm movement than necessary would be uneconomical. He brought up elite runners like Kouros to back up his opinion, but I think we shouldn't compare such a fast, genetically gifted, professional athlete with more casual runners. They(pros) are simply so very much faster that while it may seem that they put more effort into their arm movement,in fact their arm swing perfectly corresponds to their pace and rhythm. Friend does not agree and wanted to look up some reliable data or studies but haven't found anything worth mentioning.

What do you think?

Other stuff:

Do you know this website/blog? I think it has pretty useful and entertaining articles, and now there's a cool one about barefooting

"My job is to be a role model, and that's what I want to do, but my job isn't to be a parent. My job isn't to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I'm still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That's just life."

I was hoping that one of Sienna Miller's New Year's Resolutions would be to get topless more often this year, but it seems that may have not been the case. Or she's already broken her resolution, but either way, these Sienna Miller bikini pictures are once again not Sienna Miller topless pictures. That's not the way to start the New Year, Sienna...

Here’s Katharine McPhee, who once ruled this website along with her killer legs, performing on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and dropping some serious cleavage while doing so. Hoochie mama! As I said, I was once infatuated with McPhee’s killer pair of legs, but they’ve been officially overshadowed by her fantastic cleavage, and I can smell a Katharine McPhee comeback in the air (well, at least here on Popoholic) if she continues to give shwingtastic performances such as this one. Enjoy the pictures and check out the video to see everything in motion. Cheers.

A new creditor's claim in the Michael Jackson estate case ...this one filed by a woman who says she had a very special bond with MJ.

Shellie Doreen Smith filed cryptic legal papers laying claim to Michael's moolah. So we got on the horn and spoke with Smith herself, who says she was married to MJ in the 1970s, though she doesn't remember exactly when. Details, details.

Smith says the ceremony was lovely ... at a hotel in NYC. The only witnesses were hotel employees.

We're told she's asking for spousal support. Breath holding is not recommended.

I've been craving huoguo for MONTHS now, and now that I've found a hotplate and a recipe for a Sichuan-style broth (in Fuschia Dunlop's Land of Plenty) I'm ready to make it. My problem is that I'm a northern-style huoguo loyalist and really want to be able to eat my hotpot with that amazing creamy sesame dipping sauce that you always get in restaurants in Beijing, but I can't seem to find a recipe for it anywhere online. If anyone has a recipe for the special dipping sauce (or tips as to whether or not you can buy it premade!) I'd be extremely grateful. I'd also appreciate any especially delicious broth recipes you might have!

Lady Gaga Gets Comically Gorgeous

With her penchant for freaky fashions, leotards and headpieces, one might argue Lady Gaga is a comic book hero on a daily basis.

On May 5, she'll become one for real.

If you were doing some last-minute shopping on Grafton Street in Dublin on Christmas Eve 2009, you may have stumbled upon some musicians busking to raise money for a local charity. Look closely and you'll notice among the buskers are an Oscar winner and a Grammy winner. In just under two hours, more than €2000 had been raised.

Three days earlier, Glen Hansard had revisited his busking roots and shown up on Grafton Street along with Noreen O'Donnell (a former member of Hansard's band The Frames) and multi-platinum-selling Irish artist Mundy, for an hour-long busk which raised €812 for the Dublin Simon Community. You can see them playing Mundy's big hit before the gardai shut things down. This inspired Glen to post to twitter and his other band's website, urging people to get out and busk for a few hours on Christmas Eve to raise some more money.

(ONTD Won best Gossip Blog in '08)
It is with a great deal of regret that I must inform everyone that The 2009 Weblog Awards are canceled.

Unfortunately the resources required to handle the load of voting (nearly 1,000,000 votes in 2008) could not be adequately provisioned. Even if the servers and bandwidth required appeared today it would be at least a few weeks before everything could be ready for voting.

This has always been a very, very labor intensive process, and in recent years with our success a very expensive competition to run. It's hard to have unlimited resources provisioned for seven days of voting. In the past we've had to provision expensive servers for several months to prepare for the crush of voting.

We really tried to solve the resource problems with new ideas (such as cloud computing) this year, but ultimately we were not able to make things work to our satisfaction. I'm very proud of the voting platform we built for The Weblog Awards over the years, and the quality voting experience we've been able to deliver. The one thing I will not do is compromise that voting experience.

Rather than run a competition that had a high possibility of technically failing, the more prudent choice seemed to be regroup and consider our alternatives for hosting these awards going forward.

A short behind-the-scenes featurette of the "Nightmare on Elm Street" remake was included on the DVD and Blu Ray release of "The Final Destination," out in stores today. Thankfully, someone recorded it and posted it to YouTube. The clip features new footage and a look at Freddy himself, Jackie Earle Haley ("Watchmen"), in the makeup chair. Check it out below.

Anna Kendrick has signed on to her first film since earning kudos for her breakout role in "Up in the Air."

The actress will join James McAvoy and Seth Rogen in the untitled Mandate dramedy formerly known as "I'm With Cancer," which has also found a new helmer in Jonathan Levine ("The Wackness"). He replaces Nicole Holofcener, who dropped out because of personal reasons.

McAvoy toplines as Adam, a 25-year-old who learns he has cancer -- a character based on the real-life experiences of Will Reiser, who was diagnosed with cancer in his mid-20s and successfully battled the disease over several years. Reiser wrote the screenplay, which marks his debut feature project.

Kendrick will play a young psychologist assigned to handle Adam's case despite her lack of experience.

Film begins lensing in next month in Vancouver.

Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin are producing. Reiser is exec producing alongside Mandate prexy Nathan Kahane. Mandate's Tendo Nagenda is co-producing.

Mandate International will be handling international sales at next month's European Film Market in Berlin.

Levine is best known for the Gotham-set coming-of-age pic "The Wackness," which he wrote and directed.

Levine is repped by CAA, the Nervik Co. and attorney Todd Stern.

Kendrick, who most recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for "Up in the Air," will next be seen in "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" and "Eclipse," the third installment in the "Twilight" franchise. Both films are set to be released this year.

Kendrick is handled by CAA and attorney Todd Rubenstein.

Resolved: source.

Glad she's continuing to get work, which should surprise no one. Oscar nomination looks likely for her as well. And James McAvoy is awesome, so... ;]

I'm looking forward to the bad auditions for the lulz but I doubt anyone will top James Lewis from S7 for the worst audition.

The Marionette Unit - Inception Trailer from Fun Size Studios on Vimeo.

Synopsis:

This film is set in an alternate Victorian England, a world where steam-punk technology has developed rapidly and in a world where all creativity, art and individual expression is state-controlled. The Marionette Unit is a theatre show where machine and human have been fused together. A musical machine that resembles a twisted tortured church organ, run with valves, steam and electricity, is connected by a mass of electrical cables to three ballet dancers, who have the wires fused into their bodies. The dancers are controlled by the machine much to the amazement of the Victorian audience.

We follow the story of Smith, an enigmatic character connected to an underground society of artists, hunted by the police. He has come to watch the prize ballet dancer, Georgette try and escape the wired clutches of The Marionette Unit. Will she be able to wrestle free and escape with Smith, or will she succumb to the powerful forces that hold her captive? What follows is a stunning and imaginative display of the human spirit fighting to be set free.
