While the world stood still around us
We drove, dreamless, lost and found again
Around towns, adrift and nameless,
Thrown in mad arrangements,
Bruised with orange light
This could be the end of the world,
Smoking curls and the screaming bells
When I awoke, I couldn't tellOkay, so it's been quite a dry spell for me in terms of new music. To be honest, I haven't been hunting; I've been busy. It's kind of like I've been slowly starving, and then I found a really huge, really good meal out of nowhere - and they're called
Le Loup. I found this bound through recommendations on Last.fm. Supposedly they sound like Animal Collective, but I really don't think so. They're sound is more like Grizzly Bear, Death Cab for Cutie, and Fleet Foxes all melted together. They have an innate warmth to them, but they also throw all this electronic shit into the mix that sounds
amazing and whimsical and not quite so serious. It's almost like finding two weird foods that you would never think taste good together, but they do, and they taste way better than when they're by themselves.
I've been trying to sum up their sound in my mind, in one word, for a few days now. I think I've finally found it - "spiritual". At first I thought they sounded a little church-ish, but that wasn't it. They sound spiritual - native and natural - almost tribe-like. I can't describe why they sound this way, because it's too subtle for me to pinpoint, but it's the feeling that I get. Also, their lyrics are incredibly poetic and beautiful and serious. They're soft and relaxing, but they won't sedate you or put you to sleep, and they've managed that through adding in some edgier guitar riffs and little electronic touches. It's a weird mix, but they manage to marry it well.
Sounds like: Grizzly Bear, Death Cab, Postal Service, Fleet Foxes, electronics and banjos, softness and thrills and literature
Genres: Freak folk, electrofolk, indie, folk
Oh - and my favorite song is 'We Are Gods! We Are Wolves!' It's fucking amazing. I'd love to know what you guys think.
